LEADLiberia Ministry Update — Still active in the midst of Ebola

We are doing well here by the grace of God. Thanks for praying for us always. We are in a pretty dangerous situation, but it just by the grace of God that we are still alive. Ministry is pretty much slowed down as everyone observes the Ebola situation. The only major activity going on now is reaching out in communities to do awareness and help people who cannot afford with sanitary materials for prevention. Tomorrow (Oct 27) I will be making a day's tour to visit about 12 key pastors and their families to distribute rice and small funds to help them take care themselves. This assistance was sent by RREACH International thru Rev. Mundolo.

The SEED farm is going well as you know this sustainable farm has really taken a lot out of me this year. We have had challenges there with faithful and committed workers. I am sure as establish our presence things will fall in place. The farm house is gradually being finished to become livable. Our team is working a slow pace as we observe the situation. Pray that things improve so that we get over with that. We have been able to plant about 10,000 trees of hot peppers. We also have planted 200 heads of plantain and banana. The pastors for the chicken project will be among those I will be visiting to assess their work so far. We will be able to take action steps after the visit.

Will work along on planning for the coming year I believe will be better than this year. Please know that it is going to get better with your help.

Thanks to our brothers and sisters for joining with us in these proactive measures. As we stand against this unseen enemy, the message we keep hearing to share with others is prevention, prevention, prevention. Thank you for your courage and efforts to help us carry this message to our neighbors.

Pray for us to keep healthy during this critical time. May God help us to overcome this bleak period as we wait patiently for his deliverance.

As we are praying unto God and calling on you to help, we are aware that God is primarily our source and He is giving each of us the opportunity to participate in what He is doing in the lives of His people. This is always a humbling thought for me, to know that with or without me, God will still act. In this situation, God is looking for FAT (faithful, available and teachable) people to come alongside to serve others. We are grateful for your response to God in this time.

The latest reports

We continue to hear reports of places in our country that have seen almost hundreds of inhabitants died within a week. Medical workers on the front line are being infected every day. As a result, many healthcare workers are staying away from work for fear of losing their lives. If you get sick here of any other ailment, you hardly get attended to for fear of having the Ebola virus disease.

As it is, we feel like people on death row just waiting for our time to be called. A lot of friends we have known over the years have died and some are in treatment units as we speak. For our friends in treatment, the possibility of death is 90%. And, their family members bear weight too. All people they have interacted with are quarantined for 21 days to make sure they are not infected.

Indeed, it is better to prevent the virus than fight to cure a person who is infected with it. For a post-war country with a crippled economy, prevention is a better path to pursue. A greater percentage of our people have no health insurance, most of them rely on the assurance that God the Father will care for them in time of need.

And yet still…

We know that what is at stake is not the fear of Ebola outbreak. We are encouraging folks to hold fast to their faith even in the face of death. For us as Christians, death should be a graduation to glory whether it should come either at this time or somewhere on down the road. May we remain faithful in the victory of Jesus Christ that has overcome this world and continues to shine forth ever so brightly into our desperation.

Thanks for being so quick to understand and to begin responding to our hearts. We remain hopeful in part because we trust that you are seeking ways to answer our call and to help us meet life sustaining needs in our country.

I don't know to how to make this any clearer, but this is a desperate situation. People are virtually frozen by fear. Many refuse to leave their homes and to fend for their daily meal. They are paralyzed that they may contract the virus. It is going to get worse if this outbreak is not contained in the next six months.

The fragile economy of our country is already affected by this state of emergency. A lot of companies and foreign businesses have sent their foreign staff home until the current state of affairs improves. There are hardly any flights coming in, but a lot going out. It is us Liberians, who have nowhere to run, but to God. And, as so many of you know, He has called us to be here for this very event. We are called to stick it out until He calms the storm. And we know He will in His time.

We hope and pray that you see this crisis as an opportunity to serve God today and that He may not find your hearts resistant to help us. Please know this asking of you does not come easy for us either. We’d rather not be asking. Yet, we trust that God through these times is working something far greater in all of us than we may even imagine.

Join us in shining light and ministry into this desperate situation. Pray for us that we may stand strong.
